A delegation from the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria comprising the Technical Working Group (TWG) on the Nigerian Public Sector Governance Code (NPSGC) paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation(OAuGF) on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in Abuja. The purpose of the visit was to present the highlights of the draft Code, as part of the Council’s drive to engage with key stakeholders in the public sector. The Code is intended to support and strengthen governance systems of Public Sector Entities (PSEs).
Led by the Executive Secretary/CEO of FRC, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, the FRC delegation consisted of the following members:
Dr. Olowo in his address, sought the Auditor-General’s support to complement the Council’s efforts and ensure that all government statutory corporations, commissions, authorities, agencies, including all persons and bodies under the supervision of the Office of the Auditor-General will be part of the journey towards good corporate governance in the public sector.
The Auditor-General for the Federation, Mr. Shaakaa Kanyitor Chira and his team warmly received the FRC delegation and reiterated the importance of having a Code for the Public Sector. He assured the Council of his support in ensuring the cooperation of the his office and pledged to provide valuable input to enhance the document.
The collaboration between the Financial Reporting Council and the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation marks a crucial step towards strengthening governance practices in the public sector. By engaging with key stakeholders and presenting the draft Code, the FRC aims to cultivate a culture of good corporate governance within Public Sector Entities, fostering transparency and accountability.
