The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) has once again earned global recognition by receiving the prestigious ISAR Honours for the second consecutive year, further reinforcing Nigeria’s growing profile in international corporate reporting, sustainability disclosure, and regulatory innovation.
The recognition was presented to the Council at the ISAR Honours Celebration held during the 43rd Session of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR), taking place from 30 September to 2 October 2026 at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland. The annual session convenes global policymakers, regulators, standard setters, investors, professional bodies, academics, and other stakeholders to advance high-quality, comparable financial and sustainability reporting.
The 2026 ISAR Honours recognition acknowledges the FRC’s National Corporate Reporting Knowledge and Digital Reporting Platform, a transformative institutional and capacity-building initiative designed to strengthen Nigeria’s corporate reporting ecosystem. The Platform provides access to technical knowledge, research resources, learning materials, digital reporting tools, and professional development opportunities for stakeholders across the financial reporting value chain.
By serving as a central knowledge and digital reporting hub, the Platform is expected to promote greater consistency, comparability, transparency, and quality in corporate and sustainability reporting across Nigeria. It will also support the country’s preparedness for the implementation of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, including IFRS S1 and IFRS S2, while strengthening the capacity of institutions and professionals to respond to evolving global reporting expectations.
The achievement reflects the visionary leadership of the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the FRC, Dr. Rabiu Olowo, and the Council’s sustained commitment to positioning Nigeria at the forefront of international reporting excellence. It further demonstrates the FRC’s resolve to deploy knowledge, technology, capacity building, and stakeholder collaboration to improve reporting quality, enhance investor confidence, and support sustainable economic development.
The ISAR Honours initiative, established by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), promotes awareness and the dissemination of national and international best practices in sustainability and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) reporting. It recognises policy, institutional, and capacity-building initiatives that encourage enterprises to report on their contributions to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and improve the integration of environmental, social, and governance information into corporate reporting cycles.
The recognition of the FRC’s National Corporate Reporting Knowledge and Digital Reporting Platform is therefore a significant endorsement of Nigeria’s efforts to build a modern, inclusive, and globally aligned reporting ecosystem.
The FRC remains proud to showcase this milestone as a testament to Nigeria’s increasing influence in advancing high-quality corporate reporting, transparency, accountability, and sustainable business practices on the global stage.
