The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) had the honor of hosting the esteemed House of Representatives Committee on Commerce during their oversight visit to the FRC Abuja office earlier today. Led by its Chairman, Honourable Ahmed Munir Lere, the Committee engaged in fruitful discussions with Dr. Rabiu Olowo, the Executive Secretary/CEO of FRC, and other key management staff.
The visit, which took place on Monday, July 8, 2024, provided an invaluable opportunity for the Committee to gain insights into the operations and activities of FRC, as well as to strengthen the collaborative relationship between the Committee and the Council.
Dr. Rabiu Olowo, accompanied by the FRC management staff, warmly welcomed the Committee members and expressed his gratitude for their presence. He highlighted the importance of effective oversight in ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance in the financial sector.
During the visit, discussions encompassed a wide range of topics, including the regulatory role of FRC, the Council’s efforts in promoting financial transparency, and its commitment to enhancing the business environment in Nigeria. Both parties recognized the need for continuous engagement and collaboration to drive economic growth and attract investments to the country.
Honourable Ahmed Munir Lere, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Commerce, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and the insightful discussions held during the visit. He said the visit was to, among other things, enable the committee familiarise itself with the operations and policies of the FRC to identify challenges and areas of collaboration and assistance from the parliament to enable it to deliver on its mandate.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with mutual assurances of continued cooperation and ongoing dialogue between the House of Representatives Committee on Commerce and the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.
