The Honourable Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Richard Adebayo, (CON) on February 9, 2023, inaugurated the Technical Working Groups (TWG) for the development of the Nigerian Public Sector Governance Code (PSGC) and the Nigerian Not-For-Profit Governance Code (NFPGC) in Abuja.
Speaking at the inauguration of the TWG for the development of the Nigerian Public Sector Governance Code, the Honourable Minister stated that NPSGC will engender public accountability of government resources and ensure sustainability of government owned entities amongst others.
The Minister also inaugurated the Technical Working Group for the development of the Nigerian Not-For-Profit Governance Code. According to him, the NNFPGC will enhance the fulfillment of the overall mandate of Not-For-Profit Entities so they can achieve their intended outcomes for citizens and render better services to users. He further noted that the Code will stimulate public accountability of resources received from donor agencies.
FRC’s Executive Secretary, Ambassador Shuaibu Ahmed, speaking at the inauguration noted that the public sector remained critical for the success of the economy due to the strategic role it plays in the key functioning of the country. According to him, not only will the NPSGC “promote Transparency, Accountability and Responsible Decision Making in the public sector; the NPSGC will help to encourage innovation, creativity in the public sector and help to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public sector organisations by establishing clear standards for management practices and decision making processes”.
On the Not-For-Profit Governance Code, the ES said, “the NNFPGC will enhance public trust in nonprofit organisations by promoting transparency, accountability and ethical behaviour. He further said the Code will ensure that Not-For-Profit organisations are well positioned to respond to changing conditions and emerging issues”.
Mr. Danladi Kifasi (Former Head of Civil service of the Federation) heads the TWG for the development of the Public Sector Code while Dr. Joe Abah (Former Director General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms), heads the TWG for the development of the Not-For-Profit Governance Code. The members of the TWGs are composed of diverse, experienced and industry experts.
The Honouable Minister and the Executive Secretary, thanked the Chairmen and members of the TWGs for accepting to serve the nation in these capacities.
